IPTables (Firewall)

IPTables (Firewall)

  • The IPTable program intercepts packets coming into your computer by the network connection and filters them according to rules specified by the administrator.
  • If your network is utilizing IPv6 it is necessary to activate ip6tables to set up a firewall for the IPv6 protocol.

The best tool for configuring a simple firewall is to use the Firewall Administration Tool by entering “firewall” in the desktop search bar and then select the Firewall Configuration.

This tool creates broad iptables rules for a general-purpose firewall using a control panel interface. For advanced users and server administrators, manually configuring a firewall with iptables is probably a better option.
